Tender Mercies in the TKM: Laurencio

Missionaries had probably been knocking on Laurencio’s door for months. Laurencio even talked to missionaries almost a year earlier before he started meeting with the missionaries the most current time. We had knocked on his door a couple of times in the past, but one day we knocked and he answered and he set up a time to meet with us.

The day of our return appointment with Laurencio arrived, and we forgot that we were supposed to be meeting with him. Fortunately we found ourselves in his apartment complex trying to contact other people there. However, Laurencio was faithful to his word and was outside waiting for us. As we walked by, he called out to us and told us that we could come up. So we dropped what we were doing and taught Laurencio about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

.

Laurencio started meeting with us regularly. Everytime we’d leave Laurencio with a reading assignment in the Book of Mormon, the next time when we’d be following up on his reading, he’d have the assigned chapter marked up in red. Eventually, Laurencio started attending church with us.

One day, we asked Laurencio how he felt about the things we’d been teaching him. He told us that he felt good about them and that ever since he started meeting with us, that even though his wife and family are back in México, he had been growing closer to his family. Laurencio made the decision to be baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was baptized July 14, 2024.
